When the hot weather comes around and a lot of your spare time is spent hitting the beach, having water fights with the kids, or even just chilling by your local pool which means you’ll probably be spending most of your time wearing flip flops or sandals day to day.
However, most people will commonly find themselves repurchasing a pair of flip flops or summer sandals each time the warm weather returns and or something numerous times throughout the summer due to them breaking or wearing down from water damage.
One popular brand of shoe for the hot summer months is Tevas and they’re ideal for both adults and children are known as the universal sandal for their comfortable, durable, and supportive design.
Despite being known for being extremely long-wearing, there is still some uncertainty about whether Tevas are completely waterproof.
We’ll be clearing up this confusion in this article.
Are Tevas Waterproof?
Yes, Tevas sandals are 100% waterproof and the perfect choice of footwear to wear at the beach and also ideal for kids who love to run in and out of the sea, but hate having to take their flip flops or sandals off each time they go in.
Many people get confused as to if Tevas sandals are waterproof because many other sandals from similar brands market their shoes as ‘water-resistant’, which is a completely different thing to waterproof.
Water-resistant means that the item, or in this case, a pair of shoes will be able to handle a little bit of water, from either a light rain shower or a sprinkler without the quality or construction being compromised.
Water-resistant shoes may not hold up well if you happen to dunk them in water, or if you wear them in the ocean or the pool.
Waterproof means that you can wear them in water or dunk them into a bucket of water and they’ll be completely fine.
Tevas are pretty much the ideal choice of shoe for fishermen, boaters, or any looking to go looking for crabs or other sea life in the shallow rock pools on the beach as they provide amazing cushioning that will help keep your feet comfortable and protected but they’ll also stay in good shape.
The strap technology on Tevas sandals allows the shoe to stay secure to your feet, even when you’re walking around within water or even swimming in the pool, helping you stay more secure on your feet on wet surfaces and ensuring your sandals don’t slip off your feet and float away.
Are Tevas Sandals Machine Washable?
Yes, Tevas does advertise their sandals as being machine washable, however, they should be put on a delicate cycle and at a cool temperature to help them stay in the best shape possible.
They will also need to be air-dried by putting them in the dryer as this could shrink them and make them unwearable.
We’d recommend washing your Tevas sandals by hand with some warm (not hot) soapy water and a microfiber cloth and then leaving them out to dry outside.
Try not to use any abrasive or strong chemicals or detergents on your Tevas sandals as this could affect their construction and cause them to wear away quicker.
If there are any stubborn stains on the surface then use a soft sponge or brush and do not use a metal scourer.
Are Tevas Sandals Safe To Wear On Wet/Slippery Surfaces?
Yes, as we’ve briefly touched upon, Tevas sandals are recommended for activities where they’ll be wet surfaces as they have an implemented textured grip on the sole of the design that allows you to easily walk around or climb wet surfaces without worrying about slipping.
The grip technology also allows you to walk as you normally would, preventing the common fatigue that most people will get from squeezing their feet into their shoes/sandals when on wet surfaces.
Uses For Your Tevas Waterproof Sandals
- Casual Hiking/Climbing – Many people wouldn’t think of a pair of sandals as the first choice for hiking or climbing shoes, however, they are one of the best choices during the summer months, especially if you’re hiking in areas where you’ll need to walk through water. Tevas shoes are great as you can easily take them on and off should you need to and they’ll also allow your feet to dry out as you’re walking, whereas if you got hiking boots wet your feet would stay soggy for hours.
- Swimming – These shoes are ideal for swimming in the summer, whether you’re at the beach or by the pool. Kids who want to be in and out of the water all day whilst also running around will want a comfortable yet waterproof pair of shoes which they won’t have to inconveniently take off each time.
- Casual Wear – Just because these shoes are waterproof, doesn’t mean you always have to wear them in wet conditions. Many Tevas sandals are quite fashionable and look great paired with your everyday attire and make a comfortable walking shoe for running errands around town.
- Fishing – When summer begins to creep up, the last thing you want to be wearing is wading boots when out fishing as you’ll still get overly hot and bothered. If you don’t mind your feet being constantly wet when you’re wading out in the water trying to fish, then a pair of Tevas sandals are useful for keeping your feet protected from the floor and also giving you good traction that you won’t slip and fall over.
